Junaid Siddique hit a maiden century and Mushfiqur Rahim a gutsy 91 not out to keep England waiting for victory in the opening Test against Bangladesh on Tuesday.
Left-handed Siddique (106 not out) and Rahim put on 167 for the unbroken sixth wicket as the hosts reached 277-5 in their second innings at lunch on the fifth and final day, chasing an unlikely 513-run target.
It was a frustrating morning for England as Siddique and Rahim denied the tourists a potentially match-winning breakthrough.
Skipper Alastair Cook took the new ball after 80 overs, but his pacemen Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan and debutant Steven Finn toiled as Bangladesh added 86 to their overnight total of 191-5.
Rahim and Siddique have now batted more than two sessions, as Bangladesh's last wicket fell at 110 before the tea break on Monday.
Siddique completed his hundred in style, first driving Finn through the covers for a four to reach 96 and then through mid-off for another boundary. He has so far hit 17 fours in his 288-ball knock.
Rahim, unbeaten on 47 overnight, scored his second successive Test half-century early in the morning when he drove Finn through the covers for a four.
Siddique, who survived a confident leg-before appeal off spinner Graeme Swann when on 90, offered a difficult chance on 106 when he attempted to cut the spinner but wicketkeeper Matt Prior failed to hold on to it.
Rahim continued to punish loose deliveries, once stepping out of the crease to loft Swann over mid-on for a four and then swept him for another boundary in the same over.
He has so far cracked 12 fours in his 202-ball knock.
